Le fonds Yavarhoussen et l’INHA lancent l’appel pour la troisième édition de la bourse Yavarhoussen. Cette bourse est destinée à encourager et consolider la recherche universitaire sur l’histoire de l’art à Madagascar du XIX^e au XXI^e siècle. Ce sujet de recherche reste à l’heure actuelle encore trop lacunaire pour faire l’objet d’une connaissance largement partagée.

Caractéristiques de la bourse

Le ou la récipiendaire recevra une bourse mensuelle de 1 000 euros ainsi qu’une bourse forfaitaire de 5 000 euros pour les voyages sur le terrain, soit un montant total de 17 000 euros.

Le ou la récipiendaire devra utiliser la bourse au cours des 12 mois suivant l’annonce de sa sélection notamment pour se rendre sur le terrain, c’est-à-dire pour étudier des fonds d’archives, des fonds documentaires, des œuvres ou, éventuellement, pour rencontrer des artistes vivants, des curateurs, des historiens de l’art, des collectionneurs, etc., à Madagascar et ailleurs dans le monde si cela s’avère pertinent.

Les candidates et candidats doivent proposer un projet de recherche dont le sujet permet d’enrichir les connaissances en histoire de l’art de Madagascar. La bourse peut être utilisée pour financer en partie une recherche en cours mais le projet soumis peut également prendre d’autres formes : monographie d’artiste, étude d’un corpus d’œuvres, de fonds d’archives ou photographiques inédits ou méconnus.

Le jury portera une attention particulière à l’originalité du sujet ainsi qu’au réalisme du calendrier proposé - le projet, devant être mené dans l’année suivant l’annonce de la sélection du lauréat. Le lauréat ou la lauréate s’engage à livrer à l’issue ou au cours de l’année de bourse une production tangible (article, chapitre d’ouvrage, exposition, livre, mémoire de master, thèse de doctorat…) et à exposer le résultat de sa recherche à l’invitation du Fonds Yavarhoussen (conférence, débat, entretien…).

Conditions de candidature

Cette bourse s’adresse, sans condition de nationalité, à des chercheuses et des chercheurs en début de parcours universitaire (master, doctorat, post doctorat) engagés dans une recherche sur l’histoire de l’art à Madagascar durant la période allant du XIX^e au XXI^e siècle.

Composition du dossier de candidature

Le dossier de candidature (en français ou en anglais ou en malgache) comprendra:

1. Une lettre de motivation adressée au directeur général de l’INHA et à la directrice des études et de la recherche de l’INHA ;

2. Un curriculum vitae ;

3. Un programme de recherche détaillé (5 pages maximum, hors bibliographie) en langue française, anglaise ou malgache comprenant une description synthétique du projet, de l'état de l'art, de la méthodologie et de l'objectif poursuivi (rédaction d'un livre, d'une thèse, d'un article, etc.), ainsi qu’un calendrier provisoire des séjours de recherche prévus (indication précise des sources, fonds, œuvres à voir, artistes et personnalités à rencontrer, etc.) et une indication du budget nécessaire pour les mener à bien. Le soin apporté à la description du programme de recherche sera décisif. Une bibliographie avec indication des sources à consulter complètera ce dossier ;

4. Une attestation d’inscription dans une institution d’enseignement supérieur (niveau master ou doctorat) ou une attestation sur l’honneur pour une inscription en master ou en thèse à l’automne 2023 (sauf pour les postdoctorants et postdorantes);

5. Une lettre de soutien d'une personnalité scientifique appuyant la candidature.

Les dossiers de candidature pour la sélection 2023 seront déposés en ligne sur la plateforme de l’INHA  ICI avant le 3 juillet 2023 à minuit, heure de Paris.

Seules les candidatures déposées en ligne sur la plateforme de l’INHA seront prises en compte.

Sélection

Les candidats seront sélectionnés sur dossier. 

Le jury de sélection des candidats sera composé a minima de France Nerlich, directrice du département des études et de la recherche de l’INHA, du président du Fonds Yavarhoussen, Hasnaine Yavarhoussen.

Call for applications - Yavarhoussen Fellowship

The Yavarhoussen Fund and the INHA are launching the call for the second edition of the Yavarhoussen Fellowship in 2023 in order to encourage and consolidate academic research on the history of art in Madagascar from the 19th to the 21st centuries. This research subject is still too incomplete to be widely shared.

Characteristics of the grant

The recipient will receive a monthly grant of 1,000 euros as well as a travel allowance of 5,000 euros for field trips, for a total amount of 17,000 euros.

The recipient will be expected to use the grant during the 12 months following the announcement of his or her selection, in particular to travel, i.e., to study archival and documentary collections, works of art, or, possibly, to meet with living artists, curators, art historians, collectors, etc., in Madagascar and elsewhere in the world, if relevant.

The recipient will be expected to deliver a tangible production (article, chapter of a book, exhibition, book, master's thesis, doctoral dissertation, etc.) at the end or during the year of the fellowship and to exhibit the results of his or her research at the invitation of the Yavarhoussen Fund (conference, debate, interview, etc.).

Conditions of application

This grant is open to researchers who are at the beginning of their academic career (master's degree, doctorate, post doctorate) and who focus on the history of art in Madagascar during the period from the 19th to the 21st centuries.

Composition of the application file

The application file (in French, English or Malagasy) will include

1. A letter of motivation addressed to the Director General of INHA and to the Director of the Department of studies and research of INHA;

2. A résumé;

3. A detailed research program (5 pages maximum, excluding bibliography) in French, English, or Malagasy, including a summary description of the project, the state of the art, the methodology, and the objective pursued (writing a book, a thesis, an article, etc.), as well as a provisional schedule of the planned research visits (precise indication of sources, collections, works to be seen, artists and personalities to be met, etc.) and an indication of the budget required to carry out this program. The care taken in describing the research program will be decisive. A bibliography with an indication of the sources to be consulted will complete this file;

4. A certificate of current enrollment in an institution of higher education (master's degree or PhD);

5. A letter of recommendation from a scientific or artistic personality.

Applications for the 2023 selection must be submitted online on the INHA platform HERE before July 3, 2023 at midnight, Paris time.

Only applications submitted online on the INHA platform will be considered.

Selection

Candidates will be selected on the basis of their applications.

The selection jury will be at minima composed of France Nerlich, Director of the Department of studies and research at INHA and the Yavarhoussen Fund president, Hasnaine Yavarhoussen.
