Vânia Carneiro de Carvalho is currently professor at the Museu Paulista of University of São Paulo (USP), where she works since 1990 as curator and researcher of History with an emphasis on the studies of material culture, domestic space and gender. She is part of the faculty of the Social History Postgraduate Program at USP. She has a graduate degree in History from the University of São Paulo (USP-FFLCH) (1983), an MA (1995) and Ph.D. (2001) in Social History from the same university. Between 2003 and 2012 she was co-editor of the journal Anais do Museu Paulista: história e cultura material. Between 2008 and 2011 she was head of the Department of Collection and Curatorship of the Museu Paulista. At present she is vice director of the museum.

• Projet de recheche

I has as purpose to know the circulation and social appropriations of french paintings of the Fête Galante genre in Rococo. The phenomenon interests me in various scales – since the presence of the pictorial French matrix in the porcelain and engravings still in the 18th century; its expansion for the manufactures of porcelain in other European countries such as Germany, England and Italy; the retaking of Rococo in the 19th century in France; until its presence in the 20th century. Such knowledge is fundamental to understand the production and diffusion of scènes de courtoisie presents in a vast number of decorative images, objects and sculptures consumed in Brazil throughout the second half of 20th century. The phenomenon of reappropriation of the French repertoires in Brazil is being documented through the formation of a collection at the São Paulo Museum of the University of São Paulo.
