Bourse de la Terra Foundation for American Art à l'Institut national d'histoire de l'art

Du 1er septembre 2021 au 31 août 2022

L’Institut national d'histoire de l'art s'associe avec la Terra Foundation for American Art pour attribuer deux bourses postdoctorales qui s'accompagnent d'un accueil d'un an à l'INHA et d'une bourse de voyage.

Les lauréats ou les lauréates auront pour mission de produire une recherche inédite sur l'art des États-Unis avant 1980 donnant lieu à la publication d’un article dans l’année suivant le terme de la bourse. La bourse de la Terra Foundation for American Art s’applique aux recherches qui incluent toutes les catégories d'arts visuels, à l'exception de l'architecture et du cinéma commercial/animation). Dans le cadre du voyage d’études effectué par les lauréats ou les lauréates, l’INHA veillera à promouvoir la diffusion de leurs recherches respectives aux États-Unis. Le projet de recherche pourra témoigner d’une prise de distance par rapport aux thèmes traités pendant la thèse de doctorat, au profit d’une ouverture ou d’un approfondissement nouveau d’un axe de recherche de la thèse.

 Conditions d’accueil :

• Les lauréats ou les lauréates seront accueillis à l'INHA et disposeront des moyens de travail de l'institut et de sa bibliothèque du 1er septembre 2021 au 31 août 2022
• La couverture santé, le coût du visa, le logement en France sont à la charge des lauréats ou des lauréates
• Les lauréats ou lauréates recevront chacun ou chacune une bourse annuelle, équivalent euros, de 26 000 $US en et 8 500 $US pour financer la recherche et les voyages

Processus de sélection et date de clôture des candidatures :

Les candidatures doivent être soumises en ligne au plus tard le 15 janvier 2021.

Composition du dossier de candidature :

• CV
• projet de recherche (5000 signes, espaces inclus),
• programme de voyage,
• rapport de thèse (pour les candidats ou candidates ayant soutenu leur thèse en France)
• lettre de recommandation concernant le projet de recherche postdoc (pour les candidats ou candidates ayant soutenu leur thèse en France)
  ou
• deux lettres de recommandation concernant la thèse et le projet postdoc (pour les candidats ou candidates ayant soutenu leur thèse à l'étranger)

Conditions de candidature :

• Détenir un doctorat au moment de la soumission du dossier.
• Avoir soutenu sa thèse dans une université francophone (en français ou en anglais) depuis moins de 5 ans à la date limite de candidature
• Le sujet de la thèse doit porter, en totalité ou partiellement, sur l’histoire de l’art des Etats-Unis avant 1980.
• Les candidatures remplissant les trois premières conditions sont admissibles au concours. Les candidats ou candidates de toutes nationalités sont éligibles, hormis les citoyens et citoyennes américains.
• La bourse n'est pas compatible avec un autre financement et ne peut être attribuée qu'à des docteurs sans rattachement institutionnel titulaire. Le recrutement sur un poste de maître de conférences ou à un concours de la fonction publique n'est pas compatible avec l'acceptation de la bourse.

Procédure de sélection :

Les lauréats ou les lauréates seront choisis par un jury constitué d’Eric de Chassey, directeur général de l’INHA, de Guy Mayaud, chargé de fonds d’archives et de l’accueil des chercheurs au service du patrimoine du département de la bibliothèque et de la documentation de l’INHA, de Pauline Chevalier, conseillère scientifique pour le domaine Histoire des techniques et des disciplines artistiques, et d'Emily Burns, professeur invitée par la Terra Foundation for American Art à l'Université d'Oxford.

Publication des résultats :

Les résultats de l’appel seront annoncés au mois de mai 2021.

Terra Foundation for American Art Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Institut national d’histoire de l’art

September 1, 2021–August 31, 2022

The Institut national d’histoire de l’art has partnered with the Terra Foundation for American Art to offer two one-year postdoctoral residential fellowships at the INHA. In addition, the fellows will receive a travel allowance.   

The fellows’ objective will be to produce original research on the art of the United States prior to 1980 in view of publishing an article in the year following the end of the fellowship. The Terra Foundation for American Art supports research that includes all categories of visual arts, except architecture and commercial film/animation. Within the framework of the fellows’ research trip, the INHA will encourage the dissemination of their research in the United States. The research project proposal may expand upon the subject of the fellow’s PhD thesis, in favor of opening up or deepening the research focus.

 Grant terms:

• The fellows will be welcomed at the INHA and have access to the institute’s facilities and library from September 1, 2021 to August 31, 2022
• Health insurance, visa costs, and housing in France are the fellows’ responsibility
• Funding, paid in euros, includes an annual grant worth 26,000 USD and a travel allowance worth 8,500 USD

Applications must be submitted online by January 15, 2021.

• Research proposal (5,000 characters)
• Travel plan
• Rapport de thèse, for candidates who defended their doctoral thesis in France
• Letter of recommendation concerning the postdoctoral research proposal (for candidates who defended their doctoral thesis in France)
  or
• Two letters of recommendation concerning the thesis and the postdoctoral research proposal (for candidates who defended their thesis outside France)

Eligibility:

• Candidates should hold a PhD at the time of application
• Candidates should have successfully defended their thesis (in French or English) in a Francophone university less than 5 years prior to the application deadline
• The thesis subject must focus, in whole or in part, on the history of art of the United States before 1980
• Candidates of all nationalities, with the exception of the United States, are eligible to apply.
• The fellowship may not be combined with other funding and can only be awarded to PhDs without tenured institutional affiliation. The fellowship should not be accepted if recruitment for a lecturer position or public sector appointment is ongoing.

Selection process:

The recipients will be chosen by a jury consisting of Eric de Chassey, Director General of the INHA, Guy Mayaud,  curator for archives at the INHA Library and Documentation Department, Pauline Chevalier, scientific advisor at INHA, and Emily Burns,Terra Foundation for American Art visiting professor at the University of Oxford.
