About the grant

This support takes the form of expense reimbursements, between 1 000 and 3 000 euros, upon presentation of supporting documents, for trips in 2026, and covers different types of travels:

  • Within one’s country of residence if it is located in Europe ;
  • Within Europe and in the French overseas departments and territories (outside one’s country of residence);
  • To one or more countries outside Europe.

Applications will be evaluated based on the overall methodology of the research project, the relevance of the planned trip to the project, and the innovative nature of the research topic. A detailed research project and work program, clearly justifying the trip and including details of the sources to be studied or places to be visited, are therefore required. Postdoctoral researchers must also specify the objective of the research project submitted (publication, preparation of a postdoctoral research project, exhibition, etc.).

Budgets must be accurately estimated (even if they exceed the maximum amount provided by the grant) and take into account all necessary expenses, including at least travel, accommodation, and three meals per day

When research projects are part of funded projects (e.g., ANR or postdoctoral contracts), applicants must specify the extent to which their own research benefits from funding. Furthermore, in the case of collective projects led by heritage institutions or research laboratories, the INHA grant cannot be the sole source of financial support for the applicant. Institutions and laboratories are expected to contribute to the mission expenses that will be requested from the INHA. The cover letter of candidates in this situation must specify the contribution of heritage institutions or research laboratories.

Applications for stays abroad as part of jointly supervised theses (stays of several months at the jointly supervising university) are not eligible for this mobility grant, which is intended to support targeted research within a relatively tight timeframe. Similarly, this grant is not intended to support writing stays or to finance the purchase of equipment (cameras, printers, etc.).

Who can apply?

This grant is open to doctoral students enrolled in a higher education institution within the European Union or to individuals who have obtained their doctorate within the last three years from a higher education institution within the European Union at the time of the call for applications (doctorate obtained between January 9, 2023, and January 9, 2026).

Application

The application package must include:

 

  • A cover letter addressed to the Director of Studies and Research at INHA ;
  • A curriculum vitae ;
  • A detailed description of the mobility project, including a schedule ;
  • A letter of support from the research director or a scientific figure ;
  • A provisional budget specifying any co-financing.
