DFK Paris INHA Research Grant
Description du projet
The aim of this program is to support scientific work proposing innovative research axes and opening new perspectives for art history. These works should focus on common questions in European and non-European arts or relate them, especially through comparative approaches or focusing on epistemological, methodological, or historiographical aspects. Topics such as spoliation, looting, appropriation, and provenance may be considered. Applications requiring a stay in Paris will be prioritized. Beneficiaries will primarily reside in Paris and work closely with and exchange ideas between both institutions.
Nature de la bourse
The grant amount is 1750 euros per month for 12 months (plus a monthly allowance of 250 euros and, if applicable, a child allowance). Beneficiaries will spend six months at DFK Paris starting from September 2024 and six months at INHA starting from March 2025. They will benefit from a stimulating working environment and access to archives and exchanges with specialists from various countries.
Application Requirements
Applications for the 2024-2025 selection must be submitted at https://candidature.inha.fr/ by May 15, 2024. Only applications submitted through this channel will be considered in the selection process. The selection committee, composed of Peter Geimer, Julia Drost, Éric de Chassey, and Juliette Trey, will meet in June 2024.
Who Can Apply ?
This grant is for early-career researchers in art history:
- Ph.D. students
- Postdoctoral researchers They can come from France, Germany, or any other country.
Application Package
The application can be written in German, French, or English. It must include:
- A CV
- A motivation letter addressed to the Director of the German Center for Art History in Paris (DFK Paris) and the Acting Director of the Department of Studies and Research at INHA
- A project description (maximum 3 pages) accompanied by a bibliography listing the sources to consult and a schedule

2023
The 2023 jury selected Sebastian Hammerschmidt for his project “Sammeln als Form der Kunstgeschichtsschreibung bei Gottlieb Friedrich Reber (1880-1959).”
Pierre-Jacques Pernuit’s project “Interactivity and Fluorescence: Discourses and Practices in Visual Arts at the Dawn of Electronics (1890-1950)” was placed on the supplementary list.
